Travel North, South or West to reach the quaint village of Wheeler. Wheeler is approximately an hour and a half drive from downtown Portland, 50 minutes from Astoria, thirty minutes from Tillamook and 25 minutes from Cannon Beach.
From Portland, drive West on Highway 26. You will have a choice to take a short-cut on Highway 53, a lovely winding road that meanders on curvy roads through forest, past Nehalem River Fish Hatchery and farmlands. This road cuts about 10 minutes off your commute to Wheeler. If you have leizure time, take Highway 26 West all the way to the Seaside Junction and choose 101 South as your route. This drive borders the Pacific Ocean to the west and you will pass several of Oregon’s best State Parks. There are many observation waysites on this route. Excellent for photo opportunities. Approximately 30 minutes after turning South on 101, you will arrive in Wheeler on the Bay. Always a breathtaking sight!
Traveling North from Southern Oregon or Northern California, follow Highway 101. Wheeler is approximately 30 minutes North of Tillamook (home of the famous Tillamook Cheese Factory and the best ice cream in the world!).
