Greetings, Wheeler residents and visitors:
As fall begins, we have several projects to look forward to. The county presented us with our wayfinding signage plan and awaits our feedback. You can find it on our website or see a hard copy at city hall. The goal is to approve it in time to have most signs installed by spring. Our Planning Commission will include it on an upcoming agenda and all are welcome to attend.
Second, the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) will fund a consultant to develop a regional Transportation System Plan (TSP) for Wheeler, Nehalem, and Manzanita, as well as updates to each city’s TSP. The goals include enhanced traffic calming, placemaking and multimodal enhancements. ODOT will present information about the project and answer questions at our November City Council meeting.
Third, Ken Ulbricht has submitted plans for waterfront development. Per our zoning ordinance, neighbors within 250 feet of the project received a mailed notice of a September 19, 2019 hearing on the project. However, due to the project’s complexities, that meeting has been rescheduled for October 3, 2019 and the community is encouraged to attend. A new notice will be posted in our kiosk, online, at the post office and at city hall. You may see a copy of the application at city hall and on our website after September 12. A staff report will be ready for review by September 26, 2019, seven days before the public hearing. Please contact Juliet Hyams, city manager, with any questions.
And finally, check out the Little Free Library outside Wheeler Treasures: It provides a charming feature for neighbor and visitor interaction. Take a book and leave one for the next person!
